Cathedral in Chartres

This free impression of Chartres was made quite a long time ago, when I visited this small but beautiful city. When you drive up to Chartres there is one spot where you can see the Cathedral
towering over the fields of yellow grain and giving you the impression the pilgrimage must have given in medieval times, drawing you to the centre of this town.
As the church was quite overwhelming in its grandeur I chose only a very small palette of three colours and painted away. A Very lovely spot to be.

Assisi, Italy

Trying this techinque of making a childrens book and then colouring in then then refining the painting with extra ink and shades works fine when I have little time for observation. It gives me the opportunity to work with limited observational powers, first looking at form, then at colour then correct whatever I missed in the clair obscure.
This slanting road upward in the heat of an Assisi afternoon gave ample fun and leisure to catch some of the sizzling dry heat and the beauty of the plants and houses.
